New Tax Regime Slabs (FY 2025-26, Default)
Up to ā¹4,00,000: Nil. ā¹4,00,001 to ā¹8,00,000: 5%. ā¹8,00,001 to ā¹12,00,000: 10%. ā¹12,00,001 to ā¹16,00,000: 15%. ā¹16,00,001 to ā¹20,00,000: 20%. ā¹20,00,001 to ā¹24,00,000: 25%. Above ā¹24,00,000: 30%. Rebate under Section 87A: Full rebate for income up to ā¹12,00,000 under the new regime ā effectively zero tax for incomes up to ā¹12 lakh. Standard deduction: ā¹75,000 for salaried employees under new regime.
Old Tax Regime Slabs (FY 2025-26)
Up to ā¹2,50,000: Nil. ā¹2,50,001 to ā¹5,00,000: 5%. ā¹5,00,001 to ā¹10,00,000: 20%. Above ā¹10,00,000: 30%. Rebate under Section 87A: For income up to ā¹5 lakh. Senior citizens (60-80): Basic exemption ā¹3 lakh. Super seniors (80+): ā¹5 lakh.
Key Deductions (Old Regime Only)
Section 80C: ā¹1,50,000 (EPF, PPF, ELSS, life insurance, home loan principal, etc.). Section 80D: ā¹25,000 (health insurance, ā¹50,000 for senior citizens). Section 24(b): Home loan interest up to ā¹2,00,000. Standard deduction: ā¹50,000 for salaried. HRA exemption: as applicable.
Surcharge and Cess
Surcharge applies for income above ā¹50 lakh: 10% surcharge above ā¹50 lakh, 15% above ā¹1 crore, 25% above ā¹2 crore (new regime cap). Health and Education Cess: 4% on (tax + surcharge). This is applied on top of base tax for all taxpayers.
